I bought this hoverboard for my active 10 year old son. He absolutely loved using it. It was sturdy, fast enough for him while still being safe, and became even more fun when we purchased the go kart attachment. It looked good, charged easily, and was generally perfect.
Several months after he got it, he took it out one day after it had rained. He apparently took it through a puddle. The hoverboard stopped working. At that point I read the manual thoroughly and learned that the hoverboard was not supposed to be exposed to any moisture. My hypothesis is that perhaps going through a puddle had interfered with the electronics, even though the interior was dry and not corroded when I eventually opened up the casing. I am happy to say that despite the fact that my son's riding the hoverboard in wet conditions gave GoTrax an opening to say that we voided the warranty, they, after some discussion with us, offered to either replace the hoverboard or offer a refund. Since we are overseas and the cost of returning the old one by mail was more than the value of the hoverboard, they agreed to give us a refund without even making us return the non-working hoverboard. I received it with no foot-dragging whatsoever.
I note that it is not clear why the hoverboard stopped working; it could well have been coincidental given that the interior of the wiring area was dry. Nevertheless, I was very impressed with GoTrax's ethics and customer service. It is good to see a company that stands behind their products, even after several months of use and when they have an excuse not to. Thank you, GoTrax.
